Samvinna er leiðinleg þar sem hún felur í sér að maður þarf að taka tillit til annara. Ef maður væri einn í flokki þyrfti maður til dæmis ekki að vera að böggast í prófkjörum en eins og Churchill sagði þá er only one thing worse than fighting with allies and that is fighting without them.
Kallinn var líka með það á hreinu að lífið er lítils virði án dauðans:
Nothing in life is so exhilarating as to be shot at without result.
When the notes of life ring false, men should correct them by referring to the tuning fork of death.
Þetta er hins vegar kúnst sem ég hef ekki náð að mastera: Eating my words has never given me indigestion.
Þetta liggur aftur á móti alveg ljóst fyrir: If this be a world of vice and woe, I´ll take the vice and you take the woe.
Sjálfstæðismenn ættu svo að fíla þetta: If you destroy a free market, you create a black market, en þeim væri sjálfsagt hollara að hafa þessi orð í huga: Some people´s idea of free speech is that they are free to say what they like but if anyone says anything back, that is an outrage.
